Domestic and family violence is one of the most under-reported crimes in New South Wales to date. Domestic Violence comes in many forms, including emotional and psychological abuse, intimidation, harassment in the form of sexual and physical, abuse targeting pets, property damage and the list goes on.
Children living in a situation where domestic violence occurs are more at risk of being sexually assaulted and the continuation of abuse may have a detrimental impact on the child’s personal health, education, mental state, growth and social development.
The Great Lakes Domestic Violence Monitoring Committee’s purpose is to raise the awareness of family violence issues and to highlight available services operating within the Great Lakes area. Service providers and community workers are welcome to attend and or receive minutes. Quarterly meetings are conducted as required and all enquiries can be directed to the convenor, Trish, at Forster NC on (02) 6555 4351. This committee works in tandem with Forster NC’s Housing 1st Committee which was established in 2013 to address the escalating needs of residents who are either homeless or about to become homeless and women & children escaping domestic violence.
